Tuk Tuk in Bangkok Riding a tuk tuk in Thailand

One of the most famous icons of Thailand is the tuk tuk (pronounced "took took" with a short "oo" sound). This is our motorized rickshaw. We also have man powered ones called samlors. I wouldn't suggest you take a tuk tuk often in Bangkok. This is because they can be expensive, dangerous and dirty. You are low down and the exhaust fumes of passing buses will make you cover your nose. The drivers also have a reputation of cheating their customers or taking them to places they didn't want to go! For myself, I always go by air-conditioned taxi. The starting rate for this is only 35 baht on the meter. For the same journey, the tuk tuk driver might ask you for 60 baht! Having said all of that, you should at least try one journey on a tuk tuk before you leave Thailand.

I shot this video in Bangkok. Some tuk tuks up-country are a different style. A better quality version of this video can be downloaded free of charge from the download section.
